The Cygnus Alliance

The new age of peace and prosperity was a failure.
The discoveries that made faster-than-light travel possible
brought us untold riches...
...and unknown dangers.
The alien warships appeared without warning and decimated
most of the outer colony worlds within hours.
There was no stopping the mysterious alien menace.
The Great War was upon us.
But we beat them. The human race banded together into a powerful
confederation of worlds,
whose combined military strength was enough to turn the tide of the War.
Within eight years, the enigmatic alien marauders were extinct.
But the elite and powerful members of the Confederation were
reluctant to give up their power after the end of the War,
and began a rule of oppression and tyranny, aided by the powerful Confederation
Navy.
They exploited the outer colony planets for the benefit of
the wealthy Core Worlds,
stripping them of their resources and coercing the colonists into forced labor.
This reign of terror lasted for fifteen years; then the insurrection began.
The outer colonies, weary of the Confederation’s practices
of exploiting their land and denying them any representation in the Senate,
formed an organized rebellion aimed at destroying their oppressors.
In time, their pitiful forces grew, with the help of sympathetic corporations, into a formidable navy.
The galactic civil war raged on, with no end is in sight.
In 2186, the Rebel forces laid down their arms, and surrendered
their forces to the Confederation.
After 50 years of fighting, casualties were numbering close to 35 billion
lives.
In 2215, tensions rose in the outer colony of Palomino, in
the Cygnus system. A mass uprising disrupted Confederate unity in the system.
The system broke off from the Confederation, and formed its own independent
govenment.
News of the uprising at Cygnus spread to neighboring systems.
Within weeks, Spica, Kathoon, Turin, Yemero, and Capella all rebelled.
All had successfully disbanded the Confederate governments of the system.
September 2221. The independent planets that left the Confederation two years ago, banded together to form the Cygnus Alliance, named after the star-system that started the uprising. Using pieces of documents recovered from the Confederation archives, not released to the public, the Cygnus Alliance recovered the original United States of America's Constitution. Using this constitution, the Alliance set up a new government, by the people, for the people.
Within months, many wealthy corporations flocked to the new Alliance, in search of a space to set up shop and make a profit, without the Confederation skimming some of thier profits. CDX Starworks, Metroworks, Maskirovka, Allied Shipyards, and Krydanti Systems all moved into various systems of the Alliance.
January 2230. The Cygnus Alliance, now 30 systems strong and becoming more technologically advanced that the Confederation, is now considered a severe threat to the Confederation. In responce to the most recent aquisition to the Alliance, Sirgil Starport, the Confederate Senate declares war on the Alliance.
March 2241. Contact with the outpost colony of Evildrome is
cut off. The reason is unknown.
All ships sent into the region were never recovered.
November, 2248. Deep space radar has confirmed the worst fear of mankind. The Vortee, the race of aliens that nearly destroyed human civilization, was still alive. Vortee activity is evident in all of the Serpens Nebula, as well as farther out, and it is expanding.
Welcome to the universe you though you knew. A place of new danger, unknown enimies, and places you never though existed. The year is 2251. It's time to explore out, again.
